Reading Notes: More English Fairy Tales: B

More English Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs with illustrations by John D. Batten (1894).

I could write about how he went to go see the king and because the king is who he is he had to kill the man for making him look worse. The king always needs to look the best and he was making him look bad. The kings decides to ask three questions and if they were answered his life would be spared. My story could be about the three questions and the journey of how long it took to find the answer.

I could write about how the only one to help find the golden ball for the girl was her sweetheart. No one helped her out. Not her father nor her mother. They all came to see her get hanged but only the boy came to rescue her. They deserved to be together because he loved her so much and she loved him.

I could expand on the dinner at the Giants place when the rabbit ate there. I could add conversations and make it longer instead of he got there, he ate food, stole some food, and left. That was very abrupt and we did not really get to know the giant or what he looked like even though it was the first time meeting him.

I could write about how the Raven managed to steal the lake. Or how the beavers had to keep cutting down trees and more trees but instead of giving up they keep going. The raven eventually gives up and the beavers get their house back. It was stolen from them and it is only fair that they get it back while punishing the raven for his crime.

They practically kidnapped the salmon and force them to come back every year. I could write a story about them revolting and fighting against this and actually winning so they do not have to keep coming back. Adding a conversation between them would also be good and we can get to know them better too.

I could write the story about how the sun became brighter. Extend the story to include some conversation so that they have to negotiate more so that the sun can get the brighter robe. We can also have the reaction of the grandma once the boy comes back with a different one. We can also talk about why the whole village moved away and only left the kid and the grandma behind. What did the child do that we were so mad at him?
